Bed Bug Control—Simple Steps to Keep Them Out
Bed bug control may not be something you’ve thought about. A bed bug infestation is probably not a problem you expect to ever have to deal with. After all bed bugs are attracted to dirty, cluttered homes, right?
Think again.
Bed bugs can infest your home, too.
The fact is, bed bugs aren’t necessarily attracted to dirt; they like warm, dark places. If that sounds like your bed, then bed bugs are something you need to be thinking about. And proper bed bug control starts with prevention.
You should be trying to get rid of bed bugs before those unwelcome visitors ever get into your house. It’s a lot easier to keep them out than it is to get rid of them once they’ve already moved in.

By following these steps, you can make controlling bed bugs pretty easy:
• Inspect your suitcase and clothing if you’ve been travelling. All it takes is spending one evening in a hotel room with an infested mattress. These tiny hitchhikers can easily catch a ride back to your house with your luggage. It’s a good idea to wash all your clothes at high temperatures when you get home, just to be safe.
• Be wary of used items. Secondhand items like used furniture may have a bed bug problem that you don’t know about. Inspecting these items should be a part of your bed bug control routine. Be thorough – by looking inside cushion covers, underneath, and in corners, seams and around all edges. Search for holes where they might be hiding. Go over the entire item with a vacuum cleaner just to be safe.
• Your vacuum can be a great weapon in bed bug control. Using it regularly is an easy way to quickly capture bed bugs that may be scattering around on the carpet. Use the vacuum attachment on the upholstery of bedroom furniture, along the baseboards, in hard-to-reach corners, and behind bedroom furniture. That way, you might stand a chance of getting rid of them before they start to multiply and really get out of hand.
• Another good measure for bed bug control – keep your place clutter-free. Remember, they’re not necessarily drawn to clutter, but they do like dark places to hide. Removing potential hiding places makes it much harder for them to get comfortable at your place.
• If you’ve got a bed with legs there’s another bed bug control device you can try – Climbup Interceptors. They’re basically little bowls that you put the legs of your bed into. Bed bugs have a tough time walking on that kind of surface. With nowhere to go and no way to feed, the bed bugs get trapped in the bowls where they will eventually die.
• Do everything you can to keep them out of your bed. Use a mattress encasement – or, a tough piece of plastic that bed bugs can’t get through. You won’t have to worry about them nesting inside your mattress if they can’t even get in it!
• Wash your bed linens regularly. Bed bug control can be accomplished simply by putting your bed sheets, blankets, and pillowcases through some high heat wash cycles.
• You can be proactive in bed bug control by treating the cracks and crevices in your room with a good aerosol spray. Make sure you get it into tiny cracks and crevices along the walls and baseboards in your home. It’s just another added measure to lessen the places where they might try to hide.
Most of these tips come in handy before you have a bed bug problem. Remember, it’s a lot harder to evict these little creatures from your home than it is to keep them out in the first place. These bed bug control techniques may be the best protection you have against a home invasion.
If you’ve already come under siege, following these steps can help you get rid of your problem without having to call a professional exterminator.
